Conference in Italy in support of Donbass

03 February 2017

The renewed attacks in the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republic, whose victims are also civilians, have caused great concern among the public in Italy. On February 2, the activists, who have recently opened the DPR Representative Center in Italy, have held a conference in support of the Donbass residents.

The event was attended by more than 100 people, among them were the Italian experts in the field of policy, culture, economy (Chairman of the DPR Representative Center in Italy Maurizio Marrone, famous writer Nikolai Lilin, essayist and Orthodox Church’s Pastor Alessandro Meluzzi, economist Paolo Turati, representative of the organization "Solidarity coordination with Donbass" Marcello Berera).

Maurizio Marrone in his speech condemned the military actions of the Ukrainian authorities against peaceful citizens of Donbass. In particular, Mr. Marrone was outraged by the fact that the OSCE representatives do not see the clear evidence of shelling by the AFU in residential areas and cities of the Republic. Paolo Turati also opposed the war launched by Ukraine and expressed outrage at the actions of the pro-Western politicians, who are starting a new "cold war" against the Russian Federation.

As the result of the event the participants of the conference called on the international community to exert pressure on the Ukrainian authorities to stop immediately the hostilities in Donbass.
