The head of the organization "People's Diplomacy Norway" appealed to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet with a request to facilitate a direct dialogue between Ukraine and Donbass.
Dear participants, dear High Commissioner of Human Rights Ms. Bachelet, thank you very much for this opportunity to speak here. My name is Hendrik Weber from Norway and I am the head of the organization People’s Diplomacy Norway.
Since 2016 I have made several trips to Crimea and the two self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Lugansk.
In Crimea I could see a peaceful situation, where almost all people who satisfied with the reunification with Russia in 2014. And in Donetsk and Lugansk, on the other hand, war continues and the whole generation of children grows up with the trauma of war.
Despite Minsk agreements, we see a new escalation of the situation by the Ukrainian government and military in recent weeks. Civilians and children of both sides of the frontline suffering from this war that is been going on now for 7 years. That is why I would like to ask the High Commissioner of Human Rights to advocate that the Ukrainian government enter into direct talks with the governments of the two self-proclaimed republics. Only a direct dialog can end this war.
Thank you very much.
