The law adopted today by the Verkhovna Rada directly contradicts the fundamental document on which the independence of the Ukrainian state is built, namely, the Declaration “On State Sovereignty of Ukraine”. According to paragraph 9 of this Declaration, Ukraine is a “neutral state that does not participate in military blocs”. Moreover, the adopted law is extremely humiliating for the whole Ukraine and for the Ukrainian people. NATO does not even consider the issue of Ukraine’s possible membership - thus, at the level of the country's main law, there is a desire to continue “knocking on the closed door”.
For Ukraine itself, the adoption of this law means an even greater split in society — naturally, the majority of people in the eastern part of the country are categorically against such an initiative. However, it is even more important that Kiev authorities obviously have the opportunity to quickly promote any political decisions necessary for themselves, including those that could bring closer the implementation of the Minsk agreements and resolving of Donbass conflict. But instead, Kiev is engaged only in such legislative activity, which further provokes rejection by Donbass people.
