The statement of Vladimir Zelenskiy about the unwillingness to conduct direct negotiations with the Republics, while continuing the work in Minsk, clearly demonstrates that the President of Ukraine does not understand the essence of the Minsk agreements. The Package of Measures, supported by the UN Security Council resolution, prescribes direct negotiations between the conflict parties - the Republics and Ukraine. The Kiev leadership is trying to avoid this key condition, which leads to disappointing results of the negotiations at the Minsk platform.
Regarding the words of the President of Ukraine about allegedly agreeing to observe the cease-fire, they are especially hypocritical against the background of the ever-increasing intensity of attacks by the Ukrainian security forces. Over the past few days, the Republic’s territory was fired with mortars, anti-tank grenade launchers, large-caliber machine guns and other small arms, as a result of which houses of civilians and infrastructure were damaged. This is an eloquent confirmation that the new Ukrainian authorities “strive for peace” only in the form of unfounded statements in the media space, but in fact they continue the military scenario that Poroshenko started.
We urge the new leadership of Ukraine to realize that restoring peace in the Donbass is the most important task that the Ukrainian government is now facing. To do this, Kiev needs to abandon the policy of provocations on the contact line, carefully read the text of the Package of Measures and finally begin to implement its obligations under the Minsk agreements, which in any case is to be implemented.
