With the new COVID-19 disease infecting tens of thousands of people around the world and killing thousands every day, we fully support the position of the UN Secretary General and also call for a global ceasefire and the resumption of peace. In such circumstances, states should focus as much as possible on preserving the lives and health of their citizens, rather than on continuing existing conflicts.
However, the leaders of Ukraine seem to have a different opinion on this matter. In the past two weeks alone, 7 civilians were injured, 32 houses were damaged, of which 2 were completely destroyed, and 7 civilian infrastructure facilities were severely damaged. At the same time, the Ukrainian authorities ignore not only the UN Secretary General's calls for peace, but also their direct obligations to this international organization, which Security Council has approved a Set of Measures and thus secured its status as a binding document.
In this regard, we once again draw your attention to the fact that the Donetsk People's Republic strives for peace and tranquility in any way possible. We are ready to make every possible effort to resolve the conflict in the Donbass exclusively through peaceful and diplomatic means. However, our desire for peace is not enough for its resumption in the Donbass – the Ukrainian side must also do everything in its power to do so. It is not just a question of a ceasefire - for a full and effective settlement of the conflict, it is also important to coordinate with us and implement all the steps that are set out in the Set of Measures.
The Ukrainian authorities must finally realize that not only the Republics, but the entire international community calls for peace and unity, not for war and discord. This is especially important now, in such difficult times for the entire planet. Therefore, we insist that the representatives of Ukraine take their obligations under the peace agreements signed in Minsk seriously and in good faith, as well as adhere to the indefinite truce and additional measures for its control.
