DPR MFA Head Natalia Nikonorova has visited opening of the tournament on badminton "Sports Donbass"

On December 23 and 24, a two-day republican badminton tournament "Sports Donbass" was held in Donetsk within the framework of the humanitarian program for the reunification of the Donbass people. The opening ceremony was attended by Chairman of the DPR People's Council Denis Pushilin, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Natalia Nikonorova, Acting Minister of Youth, Sports and Tourism Alexander Gromakov, President of the DPR Badminton Federation Valery Vitovsky.

"The tournament is held within the framework of humanitarian program for the reunification of the Donbass people, there are athletes presenting both the Donetsk People's Republic and the territory of the Lugansk region temporarily under Kiev’s control. I am very pleased that such a massive colorful competitions are taking place in Donetsk with the participation of our compatriots, we hope that such tournaments will become traditional and will be held annually" - noted Natalia Nikonorova.

"This kind of sport is just starting to gain momentum here, a lot of people only see over it. I am personally familiar with this sport, and I can say that it is very energy-consuming, but at the same time very interesting" - Denis Pusilin said - "I am very glad that we have a capacity to host such tournaments, and I like that our youth pay attention to this, because a healthy lifestyle is extremely important."

The competitions were held in the mixed pair category, as well as in a single category. Age of athletes is 19 years and older. In total, 22 athletes from the Donetsk People’s Republic and the territory temporarily under Kiev’s control were involved. The first places in both categories were taken by athletes from the Lugansk region. Winners and participants were awarded with cups, diplomas and money prizes. The total prize fund was 300 thousand rubles.
