On Friday, the 6th of March 2015, at 10 a.m., the solemn Banner of Peace presentation will take place at the A. Solovyanenko Donetsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre with the assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the DPR.
Earlier this Banner was delivered to the Donetsk Theatre by the famous opera singer Anna Netrebko and the representatives of Roerich’s Saint Petersburg State Museum-institute.
«Cultural Peace» or «Peace through the Culture» - the main motto of the Roerich Pact, developed on 1928, and signed on 1935, by many countries in Washington. The Roerich Pact, as international treaty, is a valuable international document that proclaims unconditional protection of cultural artifacts and personnel of all types of cultural institutions during the hostilities. For indication of cultural artifacts under protection, Roerich proposed setting a Banner of Peace over them.
Banner of Peace is white flag with amaranth circle consisting of three solid circles within. This sign is a symbol of the unity of the past, present, and future in the circle of Eternity.
Banner of Peace was wide-spread in Russia from the end of 1980`s. This sign was used widely by cultural initiatives and organizations. During its short history, Banner of the Peace attended the orbital station «Mir» (1990), subjugated Mount Everest, was at the Northern (1988) and Southern Poles.
Donetsk citizens believe that Banner of Peace will be a talisman not only for cultural life but will bring the long-expected peace for them.
