At today’s sitting of the political group the acting OSCE coordinator Pierre Morel introduced his successor Sylvie Bermann. Ms. Bermann has a successful diplomatic career, and we hope that her mediation in the negotiation process will give a new impetus for moving forward in a political settlement.

We would like to express our gratitude to Mr. Morel for his efforts over more than 6 years to resolve the political aspects of the conflict, as well as for responsible and honest mediation activities carried out on the basis of the principles of impartiality, equal treatment of the parties and other principles set out in the Guidelines of 13.11.2014 “OSCE Mediation and Dialogue Facilitation.” Thanks to Mr. Morel in the framework of the Minsk platform a stable practice of systematic interaction with the OSCE has developed. We are confident that Ms. Bermann will continue these initiatives of her predecessor, as well as will be attentive to the duties and functions of a mediator, which will ensure a sustainble peace in Donbass.

From our side we confirm full commitment to the peace settlement in the framework of the Minsk agreements, as well as readiness to negotiations.  We still believe that these agreements have no alternative and are the only possible instrument for a compromise solution to the intra-Ukrainian conflict in Donbass.

Natalia Mikhailova,

DPR representative in the political group
