The main issue of today’s sitting was the prolongation of the law on Donbass special status and further work on possible amendments to it on a base of Package of Measures in connection with necessity of Steinmeir’s formula implementation. Since the existing law redaction reflects the main characteristics, prescribed by Minsk agreements, there is no need in adoption of completely new law. We need the prolongation of active text and parallel development and approval at the level of the Contact group.
The OSCE coordinator fully supported the Republics’ position on this issue. And we welcome the fact that the representatives of Kiev today also expressed their understanding of the need to prolongation of the law.
“At the same time, the negotiators from Ukraine refuse to talk about the main subject of the political group’s activity, namely, the consolidation of the Donbass special status in the constitution, although this issue is not only a direct requirement of the Package of Measures, but also an objectively necessary step to give special status a permanent character” - Natalia Nikonorova summed up.
The DPR Plenipotentiary once again drew attention of the Ukrainian party to the fact that agreeing on Steinmeier’s formula is not enough - it is necessary to carry out activities to implement this mechanism in Ukrainian legislation, and in mandatory coordination with representatives of the Republics.
