At today's meeting of the Contact Group, the Ukrainian party avoided discussing key issues of a political settlement.
“Today we have not heard from the Ukrainian party an answer to the questions raised by us at the two previous meetings. First of all, the Kiev’s representatives avoid discussing the issue of the Verkhovna Rada's resolution on the appointment of the next local elections, which directly contradicts the Package of Measures. We do not have an understanding on what basis the Package of Measures will be implemented if the Ukrainian parliament cancels out these agreements by its resolutions.
Instead of substantive work on the implementation of the Minsk Agreements and bringing their resolutions in line with them, the parliamentarians demand that Vitold Fokin, the only member of the delegation who has declared his readiness to make compromises and direct dialogue with Republics, be excluded from the negotiation process. This approach clearly demonstrates Kiev's unwillingness to resolve the conflict. In this regard, we reiterated that until the Ukrainian parliament decides on its position on the Minsk agreements in their integral form, the discussion of all other issues has no prospects. A Package of Measures is not a set of options that can be chosen at the parties’ discretion” - Natalia Nikonorova said.
The DPR Plenipotentiary stressed that the Ukrainian side bears full responsibility for hindering the further implementation of the Package of Measures. And the coordinator of the political group expressed fears that the dialogue in the Contact Group risks being stumped. And it depends on the further actions of the Kiev authorities whether we will be able to develop a positive trend in the negotiation process, or whether they will decide to cancel out all our many years of work.
