As a result of today’s meeting of the Contact group, no progress was made in the implementation of the political block of the Minsk agreements – Kiev did not provide its positions on the agenda.
“Today we had to approve the procedure for approving the necessary regulatory legal acts with the Republics, as prescribed by the Set of measures, but no proposals were received from the Ukrainian side on this issue. The only thing that was heard from the representatives of Ukraine was a statement that the mechanism for implementing this procedure could possibly be the work of the Advisory Council. At the same time, we recall that it was Kiev that removed its responsibility to implement the agreement already reached on its creation within the Contact group,” – Natalia Nikonorova said.
The mediators of the negotiation process, represented by the Russian Federation, proposed a draft schedule for the provision and approval of regulatory legal acts. We were ready to work through each of its points, moreover, some projects have already been submitted by the Republics for discussion. But the Ukrainian side refused to provide its written position, which, accordingly, served as an obstacle to achieving the result.
“Today, representatives of Ukraine indirectly confirmed their disinterest in concrete results on the political track: their position was expressed in the thesis “work goes on, so let it go”. In our view, this position is a cause of deliberate delay of the full settlement of the conflict. It is high time to start substantive activities to fulfill the obligations under the political aspects of the Minsk agreements, including those agreements that were reached and confirmed by the signatures of Ukrainian officials on the relevant documents on March 11 in Minsk,” – stressed the DPR plenipotentiary.
