On December 5, 2017 a sitting of the political group on the resolving of the conflict in Donbass took place in Minsk. The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the DPR Natalia Nikonorova took part in negotiations.
"Ukraine's party ignores the need to discuss the main issue on the agenda. Ukraine’s negotiators actually block the negotiation process by the lack of a unified position and inconsistency of their actions at different negotiating levels. First of all it concerns the approval for the compromise Steinmeier’s mechanism, as the most acceptable way out of the negotiating deadlock. Representatives of Ukraine in the working group refuse to discuss agenda issues, which were unanimously approved by the contact group, including Leonid Kuchma. And also, despite the fact that the order for the coming into effect of the Donbass special status was agreed twice by President Poroshenko in the “Normandy format”, they refuse to confirm this mechanism in Minsk. Kiev is trying to convince the negotiators and the entire world society in a conscientious attitude to the Minsk process, but the real actions of the Ukraine’s representatives show quite different attitude.
At the moment, our Republics have already made a compromise, agreeing with the proposed procedure for granting a special status to Donbass, and we expect reciprocal steps from the second party of the conflict. In case, if Kiev continues to ignore its obligations to implement the Steinmeier’s formula, twice approved by the leaders of the Normandy format, then it will be difficult to support the negotiation process in the future. Donbass special status is the basis for discussing all political issues and determining the mechanism for its coming into effect opens the way for a peaceful settlement" - Natalia Nikonorova about the sitting of the group on political issues.
